Fire Hydrants

March 12

I am thankful for fire hydrants. I know this sounds odd, but for some reason, I love photographing fire hydrants and have a collection of fire hydrant photos. I have not really analyzed the reason for this. I guess I could say it's because of the symbolism that fire hydrants represent a safety measure to put out fires, therefore save us from infernos, but that would be stretching the truth. I just enjoy odd variants of hydrants.

The fire hydrant pictured above is one I found at LSU. I like the paint, which is red and yellow, peeled and faded with time, and I like the raised instructional labels. I also like the pink and yellow one surrounded by pink cameleas (pictured below) (I believe it was actually a faded red and yellow hydrant, but it looked pink!. Actually the one above was probably originally red also but it now looks kind of magenta).
