Life in Snow

Feb 12azalea in the snow

I promised I would do another blog about our recent snow days. There wasn't a lot of snow, so I missed out on the beautiful photos everyone associates with snow. However, I was struck by this scene outside my front porch. There, surviving the cold and the snow, was a single azalea bloom. I was amazed it was still around. I desaturated the background in the photo so that the flower stands out in front of the branches and the snow background. Even the leaves are dead or dying on this bush, so I am perplexed as to how this warrior survived.

Another photo which I took at a house on my street shows an American flag frozen to the roof. Symbolism? Make your own conclusion. However, the same ice and snow that froze this un-waving flag in place also found that enduring blooming azalea.
