Welcome to the rt tulley photography blogIt features photos, text, and poetry.October 26Hair Cuts
I am thankful for hair cuts. Not that I really enjoy them but I do enjoy the benefits of not having long hair that gets in my eyes and in the way. I usually wait until I can't stand my hair anymore to go to the barber or "hair stylist". It may be 3 or more months between visits so I get my hair cut pretty short when I go. Then I have to wait it out until the hair is long enough again to be comfortable and presentable. I know, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense but it minimizes my trips to the barber.
There aren't that many old style barbers anymore, so I generally go to a hair salon. I haven't been there, but my nephew Michael Martin, is an old style barber in Nashville, Tennessee. He does soothing hot shaves as well as old style haircuts. It seems to be a rather trendy thing, this retro experience. Of course, just like everybody in Nashville, Michael is also a musician, but went to training for this, a long time dream.
This is a salon that I happened upon in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, "sarrahssalon". I thought it would be a good photo for the hair cut theme.
hair cut
shaggy the state of my hair can’t seem to see through it to the outside air getting in the way of smelling and eating my good food every other bite is full of hairy morsels unviewed then they gag me and cause me to choke it messes up my dinner time this is not a joke always having to move the hair off of my face guess it’s time for a hair cut time to go to that place i suppose if there was justice in this world my hair cuts would cost much more but i’m glad they don’t charge by the pound of the hair that hits the floor. © rt tulley October 25Companionship
I am thankful for companionship. To have another person around who cares for you and vice versa, is the greatest comfort. To have someone you can count on, someone who will share your successes, your regrets, or your failures is worth more than life. Without companionship, we would all be alone. It doesn't have to be a marriage partner; it can be a friend, a confidant, a soulmate. But whomever that person may be, they understand you and you them.
This is a photo I took at the Baton Rouge Zoo of two Malayan tigers (I think). They are so close next to each other they are touching. And they are facing away from me and the world. Isn't that like companionship? Two friends who are close and who shelter each other from the difficulties of the world.
companionship
two of us bonded as one two of us facing the sun companions till death do us part confidants from the very start against the world but facing it just the same to support and protect that is our ultimate aim. © rt tulley October 24Night
I am thankful for the night. Although I love daytime, night is a change of pace and the darkness all around removes semblances of the many colors, leaving subtleties only, as the day sky turns into royal blue, navy, and then black. And then the stars and moon shine brightly in the night sky. Nightime is the usual time for going out, to restaurants for dinner, for concerts, and sometimes football games. It is when we normally sleep and dream. The mysteriousness of night is the openess of day veiled over.
This is a photo of my neighbor Wilson's house at dusk/night with a full moon overhead. It is still early enough in the evening for there to be a deep blue sky overhead. It is my favorite time for night photographs.
night
night mysterious foreboding dreaming baby blue turns to royal turns to navy then black waves of abundance waves of fear waves of intimacy fill the night sky as she changes her dress from warm to cold a gown of silkiness a gown of mistiness a gown masked. © rt tulley October 23Prayer
I am thankful for prayer. Prayer allows us to praise and thank our maker, get things off our chest, ask for intercession and help, etc. I've mentioned before how I thank the Lord at the beginning of each new day and for all that happened during the day. It's just a little routine I've gotten myself into and a way to remember how precious life is.
This is a praying cherub statue that I found at a cemetery in Breaux Bridge next to St. Bernard's Catholic Church.

i told my friend i wish you luck but what he said to me sure stuck instead of a wish “you should say straight to the point i want pray.” © rt tulley
October 22Roots
I am thankful for roots. Roots allow plants and trees to obtain nutrients and water from the soil. And just as important, they provide stability to the plants and trees so that they don't topple in winds or storms. Just as with plants, humans also have roots of a sort. Although we are not tied down physically, what we are is often a direct result of the roots that we have in family, upbringing, heritage, and the presence or absence of loved ones. Our roots help provide stabilizing forces in our lives and can provide nourishment.
This ia a photo from the Willow City Loop in Texas when my sister and I went in search of wildflowers. This is an eroded bluff from a stream down below. The roots of the trees above are evident through the eroded soil. I am not suggesting that roots get eroded, it just enabled me to see the roots. In fact, the tree standing on the side of the ledge was fine and sturdy. So good roots can help us even when our lives are eroding around us. I am thankful for the roots that my parents and relatives gave me.
