Train Tracks/Train Stations

February 9

I am thankful for train tracks and train stations. They represent travel and the future. The rails' perfectly geometric design converge in the distance supporting the impression of distance through perspective.

This photo was taken during our day trip to Ocean Springs, Mississippi last week. To the right of the tracks is the old train depot, which now houses the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Center and the Walter Anderson Realizations Shop. A visit to the shop is worthwhile as it led me to discover a home grown artist (he was born and raised in New Orleans), who's talent may not have been fully recognized until after his death.

Like a number of my pictures, this photo is a composite of three exposures using Photomatix software, with final editing in Photoshop.

rails

the golden spike was driven in 1869

first connecting the east with the west

with rails across the u.s.

a railroad destiny manifest

promontory summit utah

forever more to be enshrined

but the glory days of rails have passed

travel replaced by the airlines

but the romance and history

carried within a locomotive

will not be rivaled

nor the glory days soon outlived.
