Fences

March 1

I am thankful for fences. Fences can either keep something out or keep something in. They can protect us from what's on the other side or keep animals or crops inside. Some fences keep dangerous people inside (prisons) or isolate certain people from one another (border fences).

This particular log fence is at the Baton Rouge Zoo and protects zoo-goers from falling off the bridge which leads from the entrance into the zoo proper. I found it intriguing because of the wooden log composition, the varying heights of the logs, and the rope which holds it all together, and the mossy green color of the one in the foreground as opposed to the clean look of the others, which fade out of focus into the background. It all adds up to a rather rustic and interesting appearance, in my mind anyway.

fences

fences were meant

to be climbed

fences were meant

to be nickel & dimed

fences were meant

to be tightroped

fences were meant

to be rope-a-doped

fences were meant

to be torn down

fences were meant

to hold in the clown

but one thing a fence was

unsuccessfully meant to be

is a barrier

for the likes of people like me.
