Lawn Mowing

August 20

I am thankful for lawn mowing. I know, lawn mowing is generally not thought of as a popular pasttime. It is work and it is a repeating chore, generally the pairing of those two things results in something most people don't enjoy. Weekly without fail around here. But to me, mowing the lawn is a stress reliever. It is a mindless and a not-too-demanding activity and does not require a great deal of precision. Therefore, it gives me a lot of time to think. I have had many of my ideas arrive during lawn mowing time. So I actually enjoy mowing the lawn.

This is a photo of my lawn mower as I stopped to snap the photo during last Saturday's mowing time. I have a new Husqvarna 22 inch self propelled mower with a Honda engine. My experience with this and my last mower (which was stolen out of my carport), both of which had Honda engines, is that they start first pull every time. The self propelled feature is one that I have come to enjoy because it makes pushing so much easier.

mowing the lawn

an expression of art

gliding clockwise one pass

spiraling from the start

an abrupt turn puts you on

a counter clockwise pathway

as you encounter fallen leaves

attempting far not to stray

a baseball loving man

will carve out diamonds in grass

where the goal of home

is evident in the paths

cut a smiley face

in the face of the lawn

or make diagonal cuts

or other objects drawn

lawn mowing is no chore

it in fact is a lot of fun

but all your beautiful handiwork

is cut away when you’re done.
