Elegance

August 27

I am thankful for elegance. The dictionary defines elegance as refinement, grace, beauty, restrained grace of style, or dignified grace but not gaudy. It is in contrast to the word ornate, which is defined as excessively ornamented, flashy, or showy. So the key meaning I get out of elagance from this is that it is beautiful, but not over-the-top flashy. Refined, with dignified grace. I like that. So there's nothing to be ashamed of for enjoying elegant things. Elegance is the whipped cream on top of our coffee.

This is a photo of the chandelier in the lobby of the motel we stayed at in Gulfport on our recent trip. It was the centerpiece of the two floor atrium at the motel. I thought it was very nice. The thing that catches my eye about this phhotograph is the star shaped green refraction near the top center. It was just a lucky thing that showed up when I took the photo.

elegance

is there a fine line between elegant and ornate

is it a matter of degree between gaudy and grace

perhaps it is in the eye of the beholder

or in the eye of the one that is more experienced and older

to determine which is excessive and which is dignified

different answers come from those whose lives are more or less simplified.
