Insects

September 21insects;spider,dragonfly,bluebonnet swamp

I am thankful for insects. Ok, generally insects give me the heebeegeebies. But when I put on my photographer hat, I love to take photos of them, especially if they are beautiful and interesting. Let's keep my interest strictly to photography and keep them little bugs out of the house!

I was visiting Bluebonnet Swamp in Baton Rouge with my sister, Mary Beth, when we came upon this dragonfly which had been caught in the web of this spider. After searching the internet, I think the dragonfly is an emperor dragonfly and the spider is an orb weaving spider, but I am not positive. It was fascinating to watch the spider prepare the dragonfly for long term storage! Mary Beth and I must have spent at least 30 minutes just observing and photographing them. I include a short video of it also. Below the video is another insect we found at Bluebonnet Swamp. It is the caterpillar of the polyphemus moth, or giant silk moth, as it is more commonly known. We were fascinated by its fluorescent green color. I took these photos with my 70-200 mm zoom lens and cropped the photos.

bugs

bugs in my coffee

bugs swimmin' in my tea

i've got creepies on my collar

wish they'd stay in a tree

crawling up the wall

be nice to smash the blobs

but too hasty an action

could ruin the pretty paint job

wakin' up one morning

found one on my nose

looked under the covers

saw two more on my toes

shake 'em loose

spray 'em dead

sit up all night

looking for bugs in the bed

all the good bugs around

seem to come to me

just wish they'd find another meetin' place

way down under the sea

meanwhile i've got bugs for breakfast

and bugs for tea

bugs of every kind and shape

fried or boiled just for me.
