Welcome to the rt tulley photography blogIt features photos, text, and poetry.January 4Golden Light
As a photographer, I am thankful for the golden light hours at sunrise and sunset. Although I also enjoy taking photos at other times, the light at these times is magical. This cypress tree, on the circle outside of my house, has been the subject of many of my photos. This particular time, the sun was going down and it imparted a glow to the tree. To capture it fully, I took three photos at different expsoures and combined them in an HDR photo using Photomatix with final editing in Photoshop.

Watch me. This is how you do it!" White pelicans at University Lake, Baton Rouge, LA. I am thankful for education. Life is a life-long learning process. It not only helps us improve as people in knowledge, strength, and character but it is also fun!

January 2Contrasts
I am thankful for contrasts. Contrasts offer us the opportunity to distinguish things and appreciate the differences. Here the ugly (portolets) contrasts with the beautiful (cypress trees in fall in the golden light). However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder-if you have been "holding it in" for a long time, there is nothing more beautiful than a conveniently placed portolet. I suppose there are instances where you would consider cypress trees ugly - but not me! The overall composition of neatly ligned up "ugly" teamed up with beautiful cypress trees is beautiful, in my opinion.

January 1Rebirth/New Opportunities
New Year's gives us an opportunity to reflect and begin again. I am thankful for new opportunities. This is my town, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at sunrise, taken from Port Allen across the river.

Photo of the Day: What I am Thankful forBeginning in January, 2013, I am going to try the photo of the day thing. In trying to come up with a theme for this, rather than arbitrarily posting photos, I thought a photo of the day of the things I am thankful for would be nice. I know I am thankful for a multitude of things. Whether I can think of and adequately represent those things for 365 days is another matter. Well, I'll give it the old college try. Wish me luck.
