Welcome to the rt tulley photography blogIt features photos, text, and poetry.January 9Football Fanatics
I am thankful for football fanatics. They enrich my life with the crazy things they wear and the outrageous things they say and do. They make me laugh, as long as it is in good taste and not obnoxious. There is a fine line that fanatics should not cross, however.
This photo was taken in the New Orleans French Quarter after the New Orleans Bowl between University of Louisiana Lafayette (ULL) Ragin' Cajuns vs East Carolina Pirates. I love the Tobasco hats! Let's hear it for football fanatics: I know I am surely one.
fanatics
from early fall to late winter there’s one thing upon which I can count my football crazed fanatic friends will arrive in no small amount dressed in purple and gold from their heads to their toes wearing their school colors on everything that shows and who knows perhaps in other places too i wouldn’t at all be surprised when it comes to this zoo shirtless with painted chests dyed hair and shouting awaiting the contests dancing and screaming their passion shows of savory food and favored drink endlessly flows of course some never make it to the actual game they out party themselves embers of an old flame. © rt tulley
January 8Best Friends
I am thankful for best friends. This is my dog Cupcake and my daughter's dog Oakley. They are best friends and constant companions. There is a little jealousy and a little rivalvry, but for the most part they get along wonderfully and care about each other. They love their morning and evening walks together.
Best friends are life-long companions who enrich our lives.
bff
there's nobody quite like my bff that can fill my cup there's never been anyone else that can measure up if my shirt happens to be a little bit inside out if my clothes don't match of it my bff will shout i know i can surely count on my special friend to let me know when things are wrong in the end but if i need comfort guidance or more my bff will be there to open the door i will shout it out loud i will sign to the deaf there's nobody quite like my best friend, my bff. © rt tulley
January 7Cypress Trees
I am thankful for cypress trees. I absolutely love them. I am fortunate to live in Louisiana and am blessed that there are PLENTY of cypress trees here. It is not surprising that I named my publishing company Cypress Tree Publishing. These particular ones are in University Lake in Baton Rouge. Although two of them have remnants of fall colors, these are nearly in the bare winter stage. But they are by no means less beautiful. Spanish moss draped on their branches completes the photo of these beauties.

January 6Love
Love, above all things, is the favorite of the things on my thankful for things list. Without it, we are just empty shells of people going through the motions of life. Love can make us soar to unachievable heights. And while love elicits the strongest "feel good" emotions, it, or lack of it, is also responsible for the worst feelings we ever experience. That is why I chose this heart shaped prickly pear to represent love - it can prick us and bleed us, but at the same time, if you and the one you love are one in that relationship, it can protect you from outside hardships and more. For Christmas this year, I gave a framed print of this photo to my wife Bebe along with this poem:
prickly pear (genus Opuntia)
heart shaped prickly pear of our love reminds first from a bud shoots forming pads intertwined spines to protect from dangers without storage of sustaining fluid to protect from drought flowers for beauty bearing in the late of spring succulent fruit hidden nourishment to bring. © rt tulley
January 5Leadership
I am thankful for leaders who have helped shape my life and continue to do so. I see good leadership qualities in others and sometimes in myself. True leaders don't get their people to follow by indimidation or coercion or fear but by displaying character and showing interest in their followers so that they willingly follow the leader. Those are the type of leaders that followers would follow into the depths of despair and darkness for. It is not easy being a leader. There are usually some in the group that go about doing things their own way. Witness the loan duck (behind the second duck) that is facing the opposite direction and going about doing his own thing.

before you tell me where to go before i see what to do to follow you know me like me discover who i am care for me as i learn to care for you as we trust in one another i’ll be there for you you for me and i will call you my brother. © rt tulley
