Welcome to the rt tulley photography blogIt features photos, text, and poetry.June 13Relief
I am thankful for relief. When you are troubled and bothered by problems, there is nothing better than relief or release from those problems. The lifting of a heavy burden is one of the most calming effects we can feel.
This photo was taken when I took January 2nd's photo of the day on the topic of contrasts (portolets plus trees). It was a line of portolets outside the gates of LSU, I suppose in anticipation for a tailgating weekend. Nothing spells relief like a well placed toilet, or even a portolet, when you are at the point of a biological emergency!

June 12Sanctuary
I am thankful for sanctuary, a place where we can find safety, refuge, spiritual renewal, and peace.
This is a photo of the chapel that a friend of my sister built in Round Rock, Texas, on her property. I like the symbolism of the photo because of the rocky terrain in front representing our trials and tribulations and then the refuge of the sanctuary, literally, a chapel sanctuary. This is a place where we can take our troubles to God and be calmed and reassured.
sanctuary
there is a sanctuary a sanctuary of the heart where peace and calm give us renewal and restart where trials and tribulations can take a back seat where inner peace and joy fill our souls complete. © rt tulley
June 11The Future
I am thankful for the future. Good or bad, it gives us something to prepare for, something to look forward to, something to anticipate, and something unknown. It is the place where our dreams lie in waiting.
This photo is of a traintrack in Texas. I used it here to represent the future because of the track disappearing in the distance and ascending a hill at the end as symbolic of our futures' bright promises. Paul Simon uses the metaphor of a train in the distance in his song "Train in the Distance" of a wishful and romanticized future which doesn't pan out. But his line "the thought that life could be better is indelibly woven into our hearts and our brains"(© 1981 Paul Simon) is so true. I, however, prefer to think of it in a more positive way. My train in the distance will take us to new heights and the fulfillment of our dreams!

June 10Transportation
I am thankful for transportation. At the heart of transportation is the wheel. Most of the transportational vehicles that are commonly used involve the use of wheels.
This photo is of a wagon wheel captured at LSU's Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge.
wheels
kudos to the man (or woman) who invented the wheel such a person probably missed the deal for his trouble and for thanks he may have received a nice new sharpened spear or extra helping of meat from the ones he held dear failing to patent he probably died poor such a shame he should have demanded more in today’s world he would have created an empire so that anyone who wanted a wheel would have to pay to those up higher so only the most wealthy would ride around on new luxury tires the others would ride horses or goats or walk if it be transportation they desired. © rt tulley
June 9Daylilies
I am thankful for daylilies. They are really beautiful flowers and by now you should know that I love most flowers. Today's photo continues the theme begun in yesterday's blog about daylilies. This particular day lily is in my front yard soon after a rain shower. It got my attention because it seems to have taken the shape of a swan. So I will call this my "swan lily". It is a composite of four macro photos, with selective focusing to try to increase the depth of field. The photos were then combined and edited in Photoshop.
ode to a daylily
ode to a daylily with colorful petals and sepals standing tall and stately like the grandest cathedral steeples opening up a first light but shut down and closed when the day turns into night early to bed and then early to rise oh that fine daylily it comes as no surprise. © rt tulley
