Ties

October 17ties,railroad ties, ocean springs

I am thankful for ties. I don't mean neckties, although I enjoy the decorative nature of them. I mean "ties that bind" people together. The tie that binds is often used in a matrimonial reference. An old religious hymn is called "Blest be the Tie that Binds", in which the first stanza of the the lyrics reads:

Blest be the tie that binds

our hearts in Christian love;

the fellowship of kindred minds

is like to that above.

This speaks of fellowship of Christians in love, which are bound by a common cause. So it can be said about people. They are tied together by a common cause, like thinking, like personalities, a marriage, etc. Without ties between people, we would be loners sitting in our own little cubicle with little or not interaction among each other. We would probably work with them OK, or tolerate them, but those special bonds which make interactions between people special would not exist.

This is a photo of railroad ties that I took in Ocean Springs, Mississippi earlier this year.

ties

so many meanings

for such a simple word

you can put it around your neck

a dressy look for men preferred

in another use

it means compete to a draw

or make a knot from rope

or even from string or straw

but the tie i speak

is the tie that binds

it holds human hearts together

and connects our minds.
