Planning

October 18planning,squirrel,acorn

I am thankful for planning. Not that I am such a good planner, but when planning does happen to take place I am especially thankful that it did and conversely, when I do not plan ahead, I am usually very sorry I did not. Therefore, I am thankful for planning. It usually makes things turn out for the better.

This is a squirrel that lives in the tree in front of my house. I've been watching him (or it could be her), and often see him burying acorns in the yard. A couple of days ago, I noticed him scrounging around the yard until he found one of his acorns and took it up into his tree. I happened to grab my camera while he was still in the yard and got this photo of him with the acorn in his mouth. So, call it what you like, but this to me is a form of rudimentary planning. He's storing the acorns away for a time when he will need them.

borrowed and altered from Robert Burns’ To a Mouse, 1785: the best laid schemes of mice and men/ often go awry/ and leave us nothing but grief and pain/ for promised joy)

the best laid plans

of mice and men

often go astray

whereas absent preconceived plans

often leads to play.
