Blood

October 19blood,bloodmobile

I am thankful for blood. Without blood, we would not have life. Blood is the transport system of so many things: oxygen, carbon dioxide, glucose, fluid, electrolytes, hormones, waste products, to name just a few. Blood is the basis for most of the testing that I do and have done as a clinical chemist. It allows us to help diagnosie and monitor health disease. Blood is a beautiful deep red color. Amazing that people get so squeamish around it.

This is the sign on a bloodmobile that I saw one day at LSU. Donating blood is so important to those in need. It is the gift that "keeps on giving," as they say. When one life can save another life. Beautiful.

blood

blood

what a wonderful thing

it’s red

and warm

a flowing

living

breathing

being

it’s great for what it does

it’s great because

it brings

life

but it belongs

where it belongs

i don’t want to see it

outside of me

that is just so wrong.
