Golf Clubs

November 13November 13golf clubs

I am thankful for golf clubs. Because, of course, golf could not be played without them. I like just about any kind of golf clubs. The manufacturers will have you believe that you need to get the latest and the greatest for better distance, forgiveness, and accuracy. I have bitten on those PR promos before, but, to tell the truth, the clubs don't seem to make a big difference in my game. It is what it is, no matter what clubs I use. I suppose that is because my game is beyond helping!

This is a photo of some antique golf clubs that I keep in my office at home. Some of them have hickory shafts, so you know they are old. The light woods with the bright red-orange insets are actually clubs of mine that I used in high school/college. The tall black driver was my father's, as was the putter in the front.

golf clubs of every kind

used to forge a great golf game

i love golf clubs of every kind

to me they are all the same

but ed has his favorite club

it is his hand wedge

he uses to throw the ball close

when behind the hedge

derrick has a foot niblick

to kick from out of trouble

he likes to look like he is walking

at a speed that is double

and jason he’s the best

he likes to drop the ball

down his pants leg

when he is standing tall

golf clubs of every kind

used to forge a great golf game

but the cheaters are cheating themselves

and themselves they do defame.

Interesting, Rick, about the 15 wood. I don't think I've seen one of those. I also had a bullseye putter in high school. I believe I have it around here somewhere. Now you've got me wanting to go search for it.

Great blog Richard, and one that I can certainly relate to. I, too, have one of my Dad's favorite golf clubs - a persimmon (sp?) wooden McGregor driver with screws in the face. I saw him hit many drives with that club and decided that was the one I would keep. I also have a 15 (yes, 15) wood. While playing a round of golf at New Orleans' City Park Golf Course back in the mid-1970's, I went to the pro shop after the round and saw a big barrel of random golf clubs for sale. I saw woods that I had never seen before - i.e., above 8-wood. There was a 9, 10, 11, all the way up to 15 wood. They were all from the same set and made by the same company, Northwestern I think. The pro said that a man had finally decided to give up on his all-wood set of clubs and buy a traditional set with woods and irons. Thus, nos. 1 through 15 in the barrel. I thought that was neat, so I bought the 15-wood as a souvenier. I have hit the club several times, but it is very weird due to the elevation of the face. Basically, I could get about 155-160 yards with it, or a soft 7 iron. I also have a few irons with the wooden shafts, but my favorite is my Acushnet Bulls Eye putter. My Dad bought it for my before my sophomore year in high school (age 15), so that makes the club 50 years old now. That putter took me through my best rounds ever in golf, including high school and college golf, and my years as an adult golfer. I tried different putters from time to time, but always came back to the Bulls Eye. It's in my garage as I am writing this post. I could go on and on forever on this, and I know you can certainly relate to all of this.
