November 12new job;midnight bowling
I am thankful for my new job. Today, I will be re-entering the work force from semi-retirement. I have taken a position as a research chemist with the Louisiana Department of Public Health Laboratory where I will develop and validate new methods of analysis. There is a lot of excitement and a little trepidation as I enter into an unknown job. The laboratory is currently in Metairie so I will have to commute until they move to beautiful and large lab facilities in Baton Rouge. I am crossing my fingers and praying that the move will be as soon as possible. There is always the fear of the unknown when you enter a new job but I feel confident that the job and I are well matched.
When I thought of me re-entering the job market, I thought of midnight bowling. Isn't that a natural progression of thoughts? If you didn't follow I will try to explain: when you go midnight bowling you are tired and it is late (analogy: I have a few years under my belt). But the lighting is colorful, bold, and vibrant and loud music is playing so the location is a treat to the visual and auditory senses. And then there's the bowling. I admit I am a bad bowler, but who doesn't look forward to the possibilities of bowling a strike or a spare? So, thus, it is with my job opportunity.
The photo is of my wife's cousin's daughter Jeannette showing her bowling form.
it’s a job but somebody’s got to do it
years and years of preparation
you have groomed yourself well
getting up at the darkest hour before dawn
up with the morning alarm bell
you make your preparations
to go out with the rising sun
you grab that trash can
put it out for the morning run
so you smile and head back in
knowing that your job was much fun
back to bed for a few hours
resting after a job well done.
