Fallen Heroes

May 27

I am thankful for our fallen heroes. Although I am as an antiwar person as there is, I can appreciate the immensity of the ultimate sacrifice that our military heroes gave so that we could preserve our freedom. Today is Memorial Day, the day set aside to remember our fallen heroes. In actuality, we should remember and thank them every day of the year.

This photo was taken at a place that I did not really know existed in Baton Rouge, the Baton Rouge National Cemetery. I wandered over there one day recently and was surprised to see a place similar, although not in size, to Arlington National Cemetery.

fallen heroes

of our country’s past

lie in porcelain guarded repose

their sacrifices unsurpassed

as i go about the daily grind

may i never ever forget

that you gave it all for me

saviors of freedom your epithet.
