Alternate Points of View

clematis back side, alternate points of viewMay 28

I am thankful for alternate points of view. If everyone thought alike, acted alike, and did the same things, this would be a pretty dull world. Sure, I know everybody should be just like me, but could you imagine 314 million other people just like rt? Scary thought. And that's just in the US. The world population is 7 billion. I can't even think in those kind of numbers. It is variety that is the spice of life. That is why I am so not thrilled by "political correctness". It's gotten so that you can't say or do anything that is not the mainstream without being lambasted by the press and the public.

Today's photo is of the backside of a clematis flower growing in my front yard. I knew the photo I wanted to show today and I knew the idea I wanted to express, but I struggled with what to name it. Several thoughts came up:  Backward View, Opposite Side, Opposite View, Look Behind, Beyond the Norm, to name a few. But Alternate Points of View seemed to express a broader idea and hit a sweet spot for me. I've read in photography books and in articles in magazines that good photographers should not forget to look backwards to try to find a photo op not normally seen. Not only backwards, but different angles, viewpoints, closeups, zooming in, zooming out, etc., often create better photos than the original first impression shot. Clematis flowers are beautiful and I have many photos of them from the front, the normal way of looking at flowers. But if you only look at the front you fail to see that the backside of the clematis is gorgeous. They have a lot of white on the back that is not present on the front. Therefore, today's photo shows an alternate point of view from normal.

in my own view

in my own view

i see rose colors through my glasses

in my own view

variety spices the masses

it is in my own view

but not from some insight

that i base my opinions

so they may not be right.

political correctness

how dare you say that

how dare you do what you did

don’t you know

unpopular things should be kept hid

if you walk the walk

of the straight and narrow line

if you do that

you will certainly be fine

they say they welcome your thoughts

and your own particular view

but it is better that you agree with them

for them to be good friends with you.
