Welcome to the rt tulley photography blogIt features photos, text, and poetry.January 19New Orleans
I am thankful for New Orleans. It was the city where I obtained my graduate education to achieve my dream of becoming a clinical chemist. It is such a unique city. I still enjoy visiting there and usually make it back to the site of this photo-Jackson Square.

January 18LSU Basketball
I am thankful for LSU basketball. Overall, they have not achieved the greatest success but I fondly remember Pete Maravich, who brought a new excitement for basketball to Louisiana; I remember the great games against Kentucky and watching Mike the Tiger being lowered down onto the floor from the ceiling; and I remember the first final four that LSU made after beating Arkansas and Wichita State in the Superdome in New Orleans. Those were the last games I ever attended with my father (I had given him the tickets as a birthday present). I am ever hopeful for a final four victory and a national championship one day. We'll see... Pictured above is the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (PMAC) at LSU, where LSU plays its home basketball games. This is the so-called "House that Pete built".
pete maravich
wearing grey floppy socks sporting a head of moppy hair if you saw him on the street nothing looked like an athlete there but he could dribble and pass like none other had done before behind the back passes two handed set shots and much more the lines snaked out of the cow barn through the parking lot with aplomb waiting to get a glimpse of the daring jv phenom and they left through the turnstiles away after the jv game for the varsity they didn’t stay the day he left lsu on the record books at the top pistol pete went to the pros and didn’t stop eventually time and tide slowed him down but he found a new master in god an athlete of supreme renown dribbles between legs and slick behind the back passes are the norm these days but there is no confusing them with pete who stood out among the masses. © rt tulley
January 17Togetherness
I am thankful for togetherness as demonstrated by these white pelicans as they huddle together.
White pelicans make their annual trek to University Lake near LSU in Baton Rouge and campus for the fall and winter. They are such beautiful and intersting birds. I love to photograph them.

I am thankful for fall colors. Although fall colors in Louisiana, when and if they occur, are more likely to be in December than as early as September-October in the north. They are around if you are on the lookout for them. It seems like they have been more visible in the last ten years or so, but that may be just me noticing them more. Anyway, fall colors make for great photo ops!
This branch of brightly plumed leaves in full fall color outside my house was angled away from me creating a difficult task of keeping all the leaves in focus. The solution I decided on was to create a composite of six photos, each taken with selective focusing on a different section of the plant. The photos were aligned and merged in Photoshop to preserve the sharpness of the leaves.

January 15Morning Coffee
I am thankful for my morning coffee, sweetened with International Delight Hazelnut creamer. Of course, I used Louisiana's own Community Coffee. I also like Louisianne coffee very much for its smooth flavor. It is such a great way to way to begin the day. Pictured with my morning paper and some cinnamon french toast sticks. Mmmm!
