I am thankful for time (I guess). It is very hard to talk about time because it is both a friend and an enemy. But without it we would have no reference point for anything. It's hard to talk about time in a scientific way because I'm not sure anybody knows what it really is (at least I don't). We know when we have too much or not enough of it but if we try to describe what it is, well, ugh. We just know that it exists. I do know that both scientists and laymen use time for many things. Many scientific units of measurement are based on time (velocity, acceleration, distance measured as light years) as are so many of our daily activities.
The photo today is of the old Baton Rouge Savings and Loan building built in 1955. It was one of the first banks to have drive through banking. As you can see, the building is now for sale, and the old clock is stopped, stuck on 10:06. I find this symbolic for our brief time in this life. Now that I've completely given you a downer Photo of the Day thought, rejoice! There are some things to be happy about and some things to laugh about. See the poems below. By the way, when I was looking for an antonym for time I found out there is no such thing. I guess it's because we cannot imagine such a thing as the opposite of time. So I use the word (non)time to represent the absence of time below:
the invention of time
once upon a (non)time
everything happened at once
all that was happening
happened in an instance
there was no future
there was no past
only the present
forever to last
God looked at things
and saw it was not good
there needed to be
a way to separate everything
and be as it should
so He clapped his hands
and there was a big bang
space exploded
and time began
and on and on
it surely ran
so remember this whenever
you hear that old clock chime
you have God to thank
for the invention of time.

time keeps slipping away
“When you are old the old people are younger than the old people were when you were young.” (quote overhead from an elderly lady).
time
keeps slipping away
it’s here and gone
what more can we say?
gone gone
gone away
time
the enemy we must allay
so we work harder
and play less
we try to fit it all
into a smaller & smaller space
until it’s so tiny
it vanishes into
nothingness.
but upon the pedestal of time
are placed great gifts
not easily seen
patience
unconditional love
wisdom
steadiness of temperament
the vision of eternity
time
keeps slipping away
but now we see it differently
and wherever it goes
go we willingly.

on time
it is so interesting
that a running clock
is never on time
but it should come as no shock
that a clock that has stopped
and this is no con
two times a day
it has time spot on.

time to kill
how can this be
there’s time to kill?
when usually there’s little
or not enough to fill
time is precious
time is meant to cherish
so why would we
want for it to perish?
